WARKENTIN CALLS FOR LIBERAL MINISTER RESPONSIBLE FOR GUN GRAB TO BE FIRED
In a leaked audio recording, the Liberal Minister of Public Safety, Gary Anandasangaree, admitted that the Liberal gun confiscation scheme – which was further detailed on September 23, 2025 – is being driven by politics and votes rather than a real public safety concern.
In this leaked call, the Minister also admitted he is “not an expert on this” and further stated:
- “Don’t ask me to explain the logic to you on this.”
- “I just don’t think municipal police services have the resources to do this.”
- “This is the mandate I was given by Carney to complete this.”
- If he were to start “from scratch” he “would have a very different process.”
- When referring to police coming after the gun owner he spoke with, “I come and bail you out if that happens, I will. You call me.”
The Minister’s comments revealing. He’s admitted he’s targeting law-abiding, vetted, trained and tested gun owners for political purposes. He should either resign or be fired.
The Liberals are poised to waste $742 million on this out-of-touch gun grab. Opposition to this confiscation program has been brought forward by provinces, by police organizations, by federal agencies, and by gun owners nation-wide.
“My Conservative colleagues and I oppose this gun confiscation scheme that will do nothing to keep Canadians safe,” said Warkentin. “Firearm crime has increased by 130% since 2015. Instead of going after the illegal guns used by criminals and street gangs, Mark Carney and the Liberals are focused on taking hunting rifles and shotguns from law-abiding farmers, hunters and Indigenous peoples. Targeting Canadians who follow the rules is an outrageous response to the Liberal government’s soft-on-crime Justice policies that have made our country less safe.”
Warkentin added, “This is another attack on rural communities from an Ottawa-knows-best government that’s out of touch from everyday Canadians. Law abiding firearm owners – not just in the Peace Country, but across Canada – have spoken out about how this program is just wrong.
“Conservatives will continue to oppose the Liberal gun confiscation scheme and call for the out-of-touch Public Safety Minister to be fired.”
