WARKENTIN RESPONDS TO STATISTICS CANADA ANNOUNCEMENT THAT CANADA HAS ENTERED A RECESSION
New figures from Statistics Canada confirms that Canada has entered a recession. This makes Mark Carney the only leader in the G7 that has led their country into a recession.
This isn’t the only bad news, as various other reports continue to paint a bleak picture for Canadians. One in four Canadians are now food insecure, with food bank visits having doubled since 2020. Comparatively, Canada has the highest household debt, the least affordable housing, the lowest investment per worker, the second-worst productivity and the second-highest unemployment in the G7. These are not numbers to be proud of. It is clear that Carney’s promise to build at “speeds not seen in generations” was all an illusion, and he has no actual plans to build up our economy with any urgency.
“Mark Carney urgently needs to reverse the damage done by 11 years of bad Liberal policies,” said Warkentin. “A real plan, like the one Conservatives propose, would end inflationary spending and credit card deficits, repeal the industrial carbon tax and anti-development laws, cut red tape for small businesses, and stop creating new bureaucracies and slush funds that only benefit Liberal insiders.”
Warkentin added, “This recession is another concrete example of Mark Carney failing to live up to his promises. His lofty speeches will not build up our economy, and his fancy announcements will not help struggling Canadians pay the bills. Our country needs a real plan to unleash its economy, retain fleeing investment, and put money into the pockets of Canadians.”
