Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Grande Prairie – Mackenzie, condemns the Liberal government’s decision to triple the carbon tax.

“As we head into the cold of winter, the Trudeau Liberals want us to pay more to heat our homes and travel to work.”

“The Liberals promised a year ago that they would not raise the carbon tax, but that has been proven false at the expense of energy workers and hardworking Canadians,” Warkentin said.

“It’s not just our energy sector that will take a hit, but everyone at the grocery checkout, families taking their kids to school and heading off to work, or seniors heating their homes.”

“This is just another example of the Trudeau Liberals promising one thing to get elected, and then breaking their promise when they are in government. Canada’s trust has been broken by Trudeau once again.”

The Liberals have already said their carbon tax would hit $50 per tonne in 2022. Now they are hiking it further to $170 per tonne by 2030.

“We have no reason to believe that Trudeau will stop here in his efforts to phase out the energy sector and the hardworking Canadians that work in this industry and the thousands of related and spin-off jobs. Any entrepreneur that uses a vehicle or Canada’s responsibly produced energy to create jobs and opportunity in our communities is now faced with higher hurdles.”

“Not only does this tax hike put the jobs of Canadians at risk, it will mean that Canadians will pay more for groceries, home heating, and add up to 37.57 cents per litre to the cost of gas.”

“I will continue to fight for the hardworking Canadians in our energy sector and all Canadians who will pay more just to get by. Instead of making it harder to get by, Justin Trudeau must stop his attempts to re-engineer Canada’s economy and end his attack on struggling Canadians.”
