STATEMENT BY CHRIS WARKENTIN – MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR GRANDE PRAIRIE-MACKENZIE

Today Chris Warkentin sent the following letter to the Prime Minister:

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,

Your silence regarding the terror attacks by masked assailants wielding axes at the Coastal GasLink site, near the Morice River in northern British Columbia, causing millions of dollars in damages is unconscionable.

The RCMP have reported that 20 masked people wielding axes attacked security guards at the work site shortly after midnight Thursday. They report it was a coordinated attack from multiple directions that threatened the lives of several workers. An attempt was even made to set a vehicle on fire with workers still inside. The attackers swung their axes at vehicles and put them through a truck’s window as well as firing flare guns at the workers.

RCMP officers approaching the site from the Marten Forest Service Road said they encountered a burning blockade of downed trees, tar-covered stumps, wire and boards with spikes driven through them. “As police worked their way through the debris and traps, several people threw smoke bombs and fire-lit sticks at the police, injuring one officer,” RCMP said in a release.

This was a calculated and organized violent attack that left a multimillion dollar path of destruction.

Why have you remained silent Mr. Prime Minister? You silence will only embolden these attackers.  Why do you refuse to condemn this terror attack in British Columbia?
